Our Breeding Program

Currently Shallowmyre is focusing on Hackney Horses and the larger Hackney Ponies. Our primary goal is to produce good moving Hackney Horses with excellent basic conformation. While extreme preformace is always a goal with Hackney's, it is our belief that for the longevity of the each individual, as well as the breed itself, each animal must have quality conformation, and we endevor to meet high standards in all aspects, as well as great animated motion.

To head our program, we have chosen Hallmandale Amber's Pride. "JR" is an outstanding example of a tall, elegant, balanced Hackney Horse Stallion. A liver chestnut, with limited white, JR is one of only a few living Hackney Horses in America that has no direct lines to Dufferin Haven, providing an exceptional "out cross" line for many of today's Hackneys. JR has contributed his elegantly shaped long neck, beautiful eye, and his height to his foals. And luckily for us, JR has maintained a largely filly ratio with his foal crops, giving us an exceptional mare band to lead us into the future.

In researching the breed, it has come to my notice that many of my favorite "Old Time" Hackney Horses, including our old matron Meadowvale Amber's McBeth, a 16 hand mare, have lines back to specific Hackney Pony lines. With this in mind, we have sought to add some individuals tracing back to some of those historically great ponies. Our smallest Hackney Pony mare is 12.2 hands.

In 2007 we were able to arrange to add Oakbriar Genesis to our little group, thanks to his breeder, Rene Wade, owner of Oakbriar Hackneys. At that time, "Johnny" was the only entire son of "JR" in existance, although we're happy to say that at least three more sons were born in 2007, including one here at Shallowmyre. Hopefully these new boys will be able to carry on in their father's footsteps. Johnny joined the long line of fertile stallions of his ancestry, and we believe time will show the success of our breeding choices.

The mares at Shallowmyre include diverse Hackney Horse and Pony lines, always with our final goal of exceptional conformation at the forefront in their acquisition or breeding. It has taken many years to acquire our little band of mares, but we feel we are now in a position to help sustain and improve the Hackney breed in the years to come.

We also firmly believe in hybred vigor. And for us, the best crosses usually contain some Arabian blood. To this end, we collected a small, elite band of Arabian mares to cross with JR, Kriegstriber, our Hackney/Andalusian stallion, and Johnny. Our Arabian stallion, HT Mardi Gras brings the Arabian breed in from the stallion side.

We're also please to offer hybred vigor in the smaller versions, with the inclusion of the National Show Pony to our program. Representing the Shetland Pony half of this great outcross is SM More'n Enuff, and his sister, SM Double 'er Nuffin.

Inquiries are always welcome. We currently have some horses and ponies for sale.
